BUILDING ADHESIVES HONOURED FOR “COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY” FOR CHARITY CHALLENGE
Trentham-based Building Adhesives Ltd has won a special award at the CFJ (Contract Flooring Journal) Awards for a 25,000 mile-charity challenge organised in honour of a former team member who passed away from cancer.
Colleagues at Building Adhesives completed the “Journey Around the Worrall” challenge in the summer in honour of Avril Worrall, a key member of the R&D and Quality Control team for more than 21 years.
More than £2,000 was raised for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice by walking, running, swimming, cycling or even rowing to complete 25,000 miles – equivalent to travelling around the world across the equator!
Challenges completed included numerous 10ks, the Potters’ Arf, cycling the Manifold Trail, and walking the Roaches as well as lots of walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking and even a bit of pedalo peddling.
Building Adhesives Ltd were chosen for the Award for Commitment to Social Responsibility at the CFJ Awards on Friday 7th September.
The award was chosen solely by the judging panel – no public submissions were accepted for this award.
Following the ceremony, judges said: “Building Adhesives Limited (BAL) has demonstrated that true social responsibility comes from the heart. In a remarkable charity challenge for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, held in memory of their former team member Avril Worrall, who sadly lost her battle with cancer, BAL succeeded in uniting people for a powerful cause.
“This initiative not only made a meaningful difference but also set an example of how compassion can drive corporate social responsibility. It highlights that such commitments are not just desirable, but essential for companies to foster a sense of community and purpose.”
David Lyman, General Manager at Building Adhesives Ltd who collected the award on behalf of the company, said: “It was an absolute honour to collect this special award at the CFJ Awards. However, all the accolades must go to members of the QC and R&D teams at BAL, particularly Joe Myatt-Winterton, QC Controller, and Angela Starling, Research Chemist, who were the driving force behind the challenge in memory of Avril.
“Joe, Angela and the other staff members who supported the challenge, are a credit to the company and the wider community.
“Their determination to complete this challenge in honour of their friend and colleague, shows just how much Avril meant to everyone at the company, and how much everyone they recognised the wonderful work that the Dougie Mac did in support Avril and her family.”
