SCHLÜTER MARKS 50th ANNIVERSARY
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Schlüter-Systems. As a company that prides itself on innovation and new product development for the tile and stone industry globally, Schlüter says that its products have fundamentally changed the way ceramic and natural stone tiles are installed over the past five decades.
In 1966 a young Master Tile Setter named Werner Schlüter founded the company Fliesen-Schlüter, the very beginning of Schlüter-Systems. A few years later, Mr. Schlüter developed a product that would revolutionise not only his work as a tile setter, but the whole industry: Schlüter®-SCHIENE, a metal finishing profile designed to prevent tile edges from chipping. From those early days as a tile setter, to a company that has evolved into seven subsidiaries and over 1,000 employees globally, the company is steeped in heritage and leaves a legacy that continually pushes boundaries, technology and innovation to revolutionise the industry.
With its head office still in Iserlohn Germany, and its UK subsidiary based in Coalville, Leicestershire, Schlüter-Systems continues to operate as a family-run international business.
Over several decades, Mr. Schlüter led the company’s evolution from its first product which was designed to protect tile and stone edges, on to a portfolio of more than 10,000 products. Schlüter-Systems aim to provide lasting installations since the time of the original tile profile Schlüter®-SCHIENE, through to tried, tested and trusted solutions such as Schlüter®-DITRA 25, which has provided uncoupling, waterproofing and vapour resistant properties, setting the standard since 1987. This includes the latest innovations such as Schlüter®-DITRA-HEAT-TB, the most effective electric underfloor heating solution yet; and Schlüter®-LIPROTEC – intelligent technology that combines lighting and profiles within the tile and stone covering.
The company also offers free practical and theoretical training at its purpose-built centre to help installers, specifiers and resellers understand their system-solutions and learn the latest techniques for lasting tile and stone installations.
Mr. Schlüter’s motto has always been: “By the installer, for the installer.” Fifty years later, these words continue to form the foundation of Schlüter-Systems’ approach to all product development.
