ODHRAN CONNELLY WINS WORSHIPFUL COMPANY’S CRAFT AWARD
TTA chairman, Paul Luff, has attended the presentation of The Montgomery Award for Wall and Floor Tiling to this year’s winner, Odhran Connelly. The Worshipful Company of Tylers & Bricklayers presents this Award as part of its annual Craft Awards.
Odhran Connelly attends the Southern Regional College in Northern Ireland and had already won the SkillBuild 2018 National Finals in Wall and Floor Tiling, which took place last November. As a national SkillBuild winner, Odhran is eligible to compete at WorldSkills 2019, which is being held in Russia later this year.
All finalists in the Wall and Floor Tiling category of The Montgomery Award were required to execute two decorative tile panels from detailed drawings, identifying the correct materials and tools. Complex designs needed to be carefully marked out before fixing and some elaborate cutting was required, using only hand tools.
